Lighter Side

After a long time, I have read a nice joke or pun or whatever that I really liked much, so this blog has nothing to do with my own thoughts; I came across this when I was searching for some stuff to get the background of Beethovan's 9th Symphony !!!

Here it Goes...

A tourist in Vienna is going through a graveyard and all of a sudden he hears some music. No one is around, so he starts searching for the source.

He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827. Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him.

By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but like the previous piece, it is being played backward.

Curious, the men agree to consult a music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is playing, again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are being played in the reverse order in which they were composed, the 9th, then the 7th, then the 5th.

By the next day the word has spread and a throng has gathered around the grave. They are all listening to the Second Symphony being played backward.

Just then the graveyard's caretaker ambles up to the group. Someone in the crowd asks him if he has an explanation for the music.

"Oh, it's nothing to worry about" says the caretaker. "He's just decomposing!"

ஹை கூ (ல்) ... பனி

Near the Coralville 22nd Ave bus stop where I board for Office

Though I came from a hotter climate, I love cold places so I started like the Iowa winter except the days where there is ice and slippery, otherwise its nice. Here are few Haiku(s) that came out of that love !!!

Lust For Life

Can you recognize this painting? If you are an art buff, then you obviously do. Yes, Its my favorite one created by Vincent Von Gogh. I read his biography, a translated version in Tamil many years ago and believe it or not, It disturbed me a great deal. Last week, I had a chance to see the cinematic version of this book "Lust for Life" and the same feelings came again.

Vincent Von Gogh a.k.a Von Gogh was from Holland, one of the impressionist artist who lived only 37 years yet achieved mortality through his paintings. Though his paintings are one of the expensive art(i)facts of this age, he had to live off from his brother's allowance till the end of his life. Though he gave birth (I prefer this than using created as he conceived and created the paintings with great care like how moms give birth) to some of the most beautiful paintings with vibrant colors, this great artist's life was really a sad story. As a man of many trades; he had his brief stint as an art dealer in London and then after a love failure with the landlady's daughter (one sided) he joined missionary and posted to a coal mining town in Belgium where he opted to live those he preached which didn't appeal the church superiors resulting in his dismissal. He lived in many places later and mostly living off his brothers'

I am not trying to rewrite what Irving stone already has done but it was the feeling that made me pen down my thoughts. I had been overwhelmed when I read the book years back, even now I can recollect that; lying on the bed with propped up pillows and took this book to while away the time being alone. I have succumbed to the same feelings when I saw the movie. He also reminded me one of the lives Brendon Fraser assumes during the pact with Devil in "Bedazzled" where he will become an extremely sensitive man because his wife left him when he was a emotionless drug lord but this time his wife rejects him because he is too emotional. Von Gogh is too sensitive that might have caused the women to be afraid than appreciate his feelings, perhaps that trait that was not considered practical, might have been the base to all this master pieces. That's a real pity.

I have come across his paintings and enjoyed a lot before actually knowing him (I mean the biography) so I felt really bad that the person who brought such a nice feelings (joy) to me through his paintings had such a terrible life, Its really awful.

BTW, try seeing his paintings, you ll really love it.
